Bridge's 5 Favorite GBA Games of ALL Time: #5

The first of my "features" I'll be doing, this is going to be a recap of my 5 favorite GBA games that I've played to death, loved, or just can't seem to put down. This is the first of many features, and some of them will be rather interesting as I go on with it.

Bridge's 5th Favorite GBA Game of All Time:

MegaMan Battle Network 6: Cybeast Falzar

Genre: Action RPG
Developer: Capcom
Date Released: 06/13/2006 (NA), 06/16/2006 (EU), 11/23/05 (JPN)
MetaCritic Score: 63

Despite coming into the series late, not to mention playing it out of order, MegaMan Battle Network will always hold a place in my heart as my first real Mega Man series. After already playing other games in the series, I finally gave Cybeast Falzar a try. The last (canonical) game in the series, the sixth entry puts protagonist Lan Hikari and MegaMan.EXE in a new setting as he has moved from his hometown of ACDC Town to the technologically robust CyberCity. With a new home comes new friends, including the mysterious Iris. To his surprise, Lan must face the revival of World 3 (WWW), the internet terrorist organization he first faced in MegaMan Battle Network 1 and 3.

So why is this my fifth favorite GBA game, exactly? This game is considered to be one of the best in the series, and for good reason. The gameplay is expanded on and improved some with BattleChip folder restrictions, and the introduction of the new Cross System to channel the powers of your allies which replaces the DoubleSoul system of Battle Network 4 and 5. Not only that, but MegaMan can channel the powers of the legendary Cyber Beast (Cybeast, for short) and "Beast Out" to defeat foes. The new transformations can really change how battles are done, and are enjoyable. You can also play as other NetNavis when completing their scenarios, ranging from HeatMan.EXE to Tenguman.EXE depending on your version. Upon completing these scenarios you not only are able to play as these NetNavis at any time, but MegaMan will be able to use the "Cross System" (pictured below is Spout Cross during Beast Out) to transform into a new look similar to them and gain their powers.

The storyline in this game can be weak at times, but is a great concluding story for the series. Several loose ends are tied up, and the storyline adds some interesting twists that will shock players, especially those that played MegaMan Battle Network 5. The scenarios introducing boss NetNavis can sometimes be confusing and interesting, and the settings are ... interesting to say the least.

The music is addicting as ever, and while some of it sounds generic, some of the battle tunes and overworld music can really be fun to listen to. The above YouTube video is probably one of my favorite tracks from the game, played whenever you fight opposing boss NetNavis.

Also of note, while I covered Cybeast Falzar (the version I own), Cybeast Gregar is also available as well. Both games really have no major differences except certain BattleChips and ally NetNavis. The Cybeast featured in the version will be the one you transform into, and transformations are exclusive to their respective version.

Overall, this game is probably my favorite of the Battle Network series, and has managed to find it's way to my Top 5 GBA games. The story is fun and the gameplay is improved with the Cross System, which I find to be more free for the player than the DoubleSoul system that came before it. Check out the trailer for the game linked below if you're interested in this one. While it's discontinued you may find it for a good deal at Gamestop (like I did) or online at different stores. Though watch out if you try to order it on eBay, since there seems to be a lot of fakes on there with any GBA game really.

Bridge's Random Pic of the Day: Something isn't right here...

Sometimes I'll have a friend send me an occasional funny picture. From the internet, then I'll have a friend that sends me the occasional picture that makes you just go "lol wat". This picture above is one of them, sent by a friend who found this while exploring a thread on /v/ with random images from DeviantArt. Please, artist of the pic, if you see this post message me so I can give you full credit, I'll edit the post accordingly. While I don't play Team Fortress 2 much (laggy computer IS laggy after all) this still made me chuckle as both a Sonic fan and a fan of parodies. Though I won't lie, I'd play as Espio Spy and Fang Sniper every time if I could.

Bridge's Vidya Resolutions for 2010

As I type this, it's almost 7:00 PM CST and 2010 is merely ... 3ish hours away. Like anybody else in the world, I'm going to try and keep some New Year's Resolutions. Personally I've tried before and... well, miserably failed. But this time around I'm going to actually try and keep them. Of course, there's some standard ones but this is a video game blog, these are vidya game related.

Bridge's Vidya Resolutions for 2010!
(...or he'll die trying.)
[...okay not really.]

  1. Gotta Catch 'Em All:
This is going to be the year. After being a fan of Pokemon since the very first generation, and with the release of Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver in March, I'm finally going to try and complete my Pokedex. Granted, I already have several of the Pokemon, but I'm going to actually try and hit that 493 mark in my file of Pokemon Soul Silver, and get that digital certificate with pride.
  2. Bananas in Barrels
It's no secret among my friends, I'm a huge fan of the Donkey Kong Country series by Rare Ltd. (then Rareware), but one thing I've yet to do is actually fully complete the first two games in the series, Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. While I did manage to do that in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (more than five times in both the GBA and Wii VC Release, even!) I'm finally going to do the same in the first two games in the popular and classic SNES series. Let's just hope K. Rool doesn't stop me in my tracks..
  3. The Perfect Mission
Little known fact, I never truly played the Rare Ltd N64 classic Perfect Dark until this year when I got a sealed copy on eBay for a good deal. However, thanks to school work I wound up not finishing the game... and I got it in October. So, this year I dare say I'm going to finish this game, since not only is it excellent, but I need to put my N64 back up out of storage. I wonder if dataDyne would be reading this...
  4. Brawling Down the River
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a wonderful game, at least I thought so... it was one of my most hyped games of 2008. I'm sure everyone remembers staying up for Japan Time on the Official Smash Bros Dojo... I remember waiting for character reveals. Unfortunately no one suspected that since the game is a dual layered disc, some Wii systems would have trouble reading the disc due to dust/smoke build up on the lens. After a long time, my lens is doing the same... so eventually I'm going to try and get my Wii sent out to Nintendo so I can get the game playable again... and definitely before Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes out.
  5. Think Outside the Box...
    Fun fac
t: I would actually be considered a Nintendo fanboy. I've only owned Nintendo systems until 2008... and that was an XBOX 360. However, I wound up getting it at the exact wrong time... I had only one friend I could play with Live over, and well, I needed money for college at the time being a fresh high school graduate. However, this year I'm going to finally change that as I -finally- get into the XBOX 360 craze, get another one, and I'm going to make myself enjoy it. Since they upgraded to the New XBOX Experience, (I got my first one, an Arcade... ick, before that.) I've loved the newer features such as Netflix streaming and party viewing. So, my last vidya resolution will be to get an XBOX 360... hopefully an Elite, by March of 2009. I just thank god the controller is not the monstrosity that came before it in the original XBOX, seriously guys... how did you manage with that?
End of Post Questions:
-What video game related resolutions do you have for 2010?
-What was your first "second" system during a generation?
-Did you ever REALLY catch them all, Action Replay excluded?
-What games would you recommend for me for my 360?

Obligatory Introduction Post!

Welcome to VidyaBridge, I'm your author Bridge and I hope to entertain you with not just tidbits of news about video games (primarily Nintendo Wii and DS, the only two systems this gen that I own) but also articles on video games of the past, present, and future.

Think it's just going to be about video games? Why no! I'm also going to include Off Topic (OT) posts which will be identified easily. These will be about anything from television, music, books, news, or even my personal life.

Expect some features to come up soon, as well as reviews. Also I'll post interesting news links throughout the day, so sit down and enjoy yourself.
